Meet Makenzie

I'm Makenzie!
Lover of the color orange, extrovert at heart, creative by nature, a mama of two by a complete and utter miracle (more on that later), a wife to a unicorn of a man who puts up with all my crazy ideas (truly, he is the best!), a fifth-generation native to Bakersfield, CA.
I've been extremely fortunate to call the wedding and portrait industry my full-time gig since I was 21. I shot my first wedding when I was 16 and quickly realized I wanted to be my own boss. I chased the dream and never looked back! Seventeen years later, I've photographed over 400 weddings and countless graduates and families, and I couldn't be more grateful to call this my job. I'm living the dream!
And this is Brock!
Brock has been offering video for as long as I've been doing photography! Our relationship has quite literally been the invisible string theory, as we have been somehow connected or kept running into one another our entire lives before getting married. Early on in our creative careers, we would work weddings together but were dating other people... he became a nurse and slowed down on offering video as much. Once we started dating, his creative itch had to be scratched, and now he's back in the wedding industry, offering videos to our couples by my side!

Our Story
Our dads worked together at the same mechanic shop before either of us was born! I met Brock's younger brother through a mutual friend - fast forward - a few years later, I officially met Brock in my first year of high school.
Brock and I didn't officially start dating until nearly thirteen years after we graduated high school! You can imagine my surprise after all this time when his Bumble profile popped up on my phone, and I swiped on his profile only to realize he had already swiped on me! MATCHED! We met up for a date that week!

We quickly realized we each felt like each other's home. We got married a year and a half later.

Our family grew as we welcomed our daughter via surrogacy! Our son is so smitten over her, as are we, and we are quite the overly caffeinated crew!

Meet our why - our kids!
Haylen is our funny, silly, LEGO-loving, Encanto-singing, Mario-crazed, Number Block super fan, miracle man! At just five years old, he has quite the story to tell someday, as he was born at 24 weeks' gestation. Defying all odds, Haylen has impressed all of his doctors, teachers, friends, and family by catching up and closing all gaps that were put in front of him as a micro preemie. Now he loves to sing, dance, play, and keep us on our toes!

Fun Fact:
Haylen was only 1 pound 8 ounces when he was born. I like to refer to his birth weight as the size of a Chipotle burrito.
Miss Thing is a miracle in and of herself! After a life-saving hysterectomy during Haylen's birth, we knew surrogacy or adoption was in our future. Brock and I decided to pursue surrogacy to grow our family, and one of my best friends offered to be our surrogate! Our surrogacy journey was crazy and beautiful, and the best gift ever to give us our sassy girl! She is such a happy baby, and we adore her!

Fun Fact:
Lynnlee Kay is a combination of my mom's middle name, my middle name, and Brock's mom's middle name! Michelle Lynn, Makenzie Lee, Regina Kay.
